ZERO DOLLAR DAYS

A crisis comes, and a president admonishes the citizen-
children of his nation to shop, to consume more, to spend
more.

How strange . . .

Where are the days of finding peace and security in less
is more, in household economies based on saving, on
conserving, and on little waste?

I say, to hell with the consumer-in-chief. Stack your
zero dollars days—the days in which you spend nothing
at all—like newly minted gold coins. The more you stack
up the better. And know that, the less we spend, the freer
we are, the less harm we most likely do in the world,
and the more there is left for others of far greater need.
